Heat Wave
...MAJOR HEATWAVE THROUGH THE WEEKEND... Enjoy today as it will seem downright cool compared to late week through the weekend. High temperatures will soar to between 95 and 105 for the lower valleys of northeast CA and western NV by Thursday and Friday with mid 80s to lower 90s for Sierra valleys. A few records are possible, including at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Minimal cooling is expected over the weekend (a few degrees at most). There is a distinct threat for heat impacts for those exposed to the afternoon sun for long periods of time or those sensitive to heat. If you must be outside during the heat, have a plan to get in the shade or in a cool spot and have plenty of water on hand. Note that there is a Heat Advisory for western NV. Thunderstorms are not expected for most locations through the weekend. However, a few afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be possible for Mono, Mineral, and southern Lyon counties Thursday and/or Friday. While winds will remain rather light for most spots Wednesday through the weekend, locations near thunderstorms could see gusts to 50 mph. Also, storms could bring brief heavy rain, small hail, and rapid temperature drops.
